Geek Tip: Changing a File Association - Have you ever wanted to change the application that launches by default when you double click on a certain type of file? There are two quick and easy ways to change which software is associated with the file.
- Right click on the file. Choose "Open With" and a new window will open asking you to choose a program from a list of recommended and other programs you have installed. Make a selection and tick the box next to "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file". Then click the OK button.
- Or you can right click on the file and choose "Properties" from the menu. At the very top it will tell you what type of file it is and what program it opens with. Click "Change" and the "Open With" window appears again, allowing you to choose from the programs you currently have installed. Tick the box next to "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and click the OK button.
