Keep Your Website Error Free With DeepTrawl

by Michael E. Callahan aka Dr. File Finder

In the course of creating, updating, and maintaining a Web site, you can accidentally create errors. My original Web site has been up for nearly thirteen years and over that time it's changed a lot. Things have been added, things have been removed. I knew there had to be broken links, but I couldn't imagine trying to go through those pages and find them. Then, I found DeepTrawl and the problem was solved!

DeepTrawl is a cool program that scans your Web pages and finds every error and dead link. I was really impressed with how fast and accurate it was. I was also shocked by the amount of stuff it found on my sites. DeepTrawl found some spelling errors, some missing graphics, broken links, and more. What's really cool is that the program has a built-in HTML editor so it can show you the problems and then let you fix them. The screenshot shows a scan of one of my sites and DeepTrawl found 105 potential problems and miscellaneous errors. I love the fact that it doesn't just find the problems, but also makes it easy to fix them. Just the ability to go through and check the spelling of an entire Web site is a huge benefit. DeepTrawl can work with your Web sites either online or offline. It also doesn't matter how large your Web site is, because DeepTrawl can handle any number of pages. Another real benefit of the program is that it insures that your HTML coding meets the established standard and that means your site will be compatible with a variety of Web browsers. Another cool feature is the ability to schedule scans and have the program send you an email detailing any errors. Slick.

DeepTrawl comes built-in with a variety of "checks" and these cover things like validating images, checking for pages that haven't been modified recently, validating all your hyperlinks, and many more. You can toggle these off and on so you can customize the way the program scans your site. Before your scan starts you can also determine what part of the site it's going to examine. For example, the start page only, all pages within the domain, the start page directory, and more. On top of all this, however, you can also define your own checks. I did this on my sites to make sure I'd updated my address, email, and phone number from the ones I used while I was in Colorado. A very handy feature.

Whether your Web pages are for your family or your business, they are a reflection upon you! The absolute easiest way to make your Web pages error free and first-rate is to use DeepTrawl to find any and all errors. I like this product so much that it's not only one of my Picks, but I'm also making it a Dr. File Finder Favorite and in 25 years of evaluating software there haven't been very many of those. The program is intuitive and very easy-to-use, perfect for all users. So, if you want to "clean up your act" this is the program you need. Give it a try, I recommend it highly.
